Candy: a successfull story, from the first washing machine to the appliances connected via Wi-Fi.
Candy produced the first Italian washing machine in 1945 and in the late 1950s invented the modern front loading washing machine. This became synonymous of washing in Italy.
Candy is now an international brand and offers a full range of large free standing and built-in appliances incorporating the most advanced technologies, functional and made in Italy design and excellent performance. Over the years, Candy’s mission has not changed, Always meeting the needs of consumers with innovative but easy to use and affordable products.
In 1945 the Eden Fumagalli workshop released "Model 50" the first Italian washing machine: The machine would be presented to the public at the Milan Fair in 1946. In the same year inspired by the chorus of a song by Nat King Cole, the company was renamed Candy. Having patented the first dishwasher, Candy launched Model 45, the washing machine with 3kg load capacity with heating and drain pump. In 1954 the company commercialized the Candy Matic with the slogan “Thanks a lot, its Candy"
In 1955 Candy opened the first foreign subsidiary in France, followed by the German subsidiary in 1958. 1957 is the year of the the launch of Bi-Matic, the first semi-automatic washing machine with rinse and spin functions: one year later the Candy Automatic become the first fully automatic washing machine designed and manufactured in Italy.
Between 1959 and 1961 was built the plant of Brugherio (MB). The innovative washing machines have the oval tub and the half-load option, as the Superautomatic 5 presented by Candy in 1963.
The first dishwasher Candy launches in 1966. The dishwasher named Stipomatic and has 3 separate compartments with differentiated washing. In 1968 the superautomatic 98 was the first washing machine with 6 programs with biological soaking. Between 1970 and 1971 began the production of the first kitchens and refrigerators, with the aquistion of Kelvinator (Kelvinator UK was acquired in 1980). New Candy products were later signed by famous designers and they went on to win awards such as the Golden Compass.
Savings and environmental impact became important issues within this period. In 1977 Candy launched a campaign with the slogan "Candy helps you not to waste. The light, the stuff, the detergent". In 1981 Candy commercialized T3, the first freezer with 3 compartments with 3 different temperatures. Candy also produced the first no frost technology that prevents the formation of frost.
In '85, on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary, Candy acquired the two great Italian brands Zerowatt and Gasfire. In these years it opened plants throughout the world and continued to acquire major companies like Rosiéres (leader products for cooking), Mayc-Otsein (top loading washing machine) and Iberna (refrigerators): thus was born the innovative Combichef, the first oven with traditional cooking and microwaves.
During this period space-saving appliances such as Slimmy and Holiday washing machines had a lot of success.
In '95 Candy turned half a century and celebrated it acquiring Hoover European Appliances, European leader floorcare products. In the new millennium Candy changed its logo and continued to grow: in 2002 exported to 111 countries.
In the same year was born the slogan "Candy can do", which is still used.
In 2004 Candy won a record with the dishwasher: Candy Futura wash up to 15 place settings. Also during this period Candy went to China opening the office in Shanghai.
In 2005 Candy Celebrated 60 years and acquired Vyatka, the Russian leader in washing machines. In March 2006 Candy launched GrandO the washing machine with the largest porthole on the market. In June 2006 Candy acquired the brand Jinling a washing leader in China and the following year the Turkish brand SUSLER a turkish brand joining the Group the following year. In 2009 induction hobs were introduced in the range and the launch of Duo, a multifunction electrice oven and dishwasher. 2010 marked the revolution to the dryer with the EasyCase: The tank that collects condensed water behind the porthole.
In 2011 Candy presented GrandÓ Evo with Mix Power System technology that washes at 20 ° as 40 °. In the kitchen instead it came Prodige oven with double cavity and dual fan to bake at the same time at different temperatures.In 2012 it was inaugurated a new plant of washing machines in China. According to the top loading washing machines, Candy presented Evo Plaisir with Gentle Touch Opening. Revolution in the kitchen: Krio Vital Evo refrigerators allow better food preservation through No Frost Bio technology and Air control system; induction hob became FLEXI which had modular cooking zones; ovens have the largest cavity on the market with 78 liters.
In 2013 Candy added in its dishwasher EvoSpace the space for 8 maxi dishes thanks to Maxi Plates. EGO Microwaves were born in this year: strong personality, 5 colors and vintage taste.
In 2014 GrandOvita washing machine reaches a record with the most effective rapid wash thanks to Mix Power System + perfect wash in just 59 seconds. Ovens and Elite hob were created with unique and refined design. The Evospace dishwasher hosts a 16 place settings and has a record for capacity and flexibility. Alisè washer dryer wash 8 kg and dry 5 kg in just 45 cm. Refrigerators become Maxi, reaching a height of 2 meters. 2014 also sees the light simply-fi, the first full range of appliances connected via WI-FI. In Candy 2015 celebrates 70 years since the first production of the all-Italian washing machine.
Research and innovation

Candy Group uses recyclable materials for each component both for products and packaging and has actively participated in the definition of WEEE, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive. The Candy production process has been designed with the goal of reducing emissions both in compliance with the regulations in the various countries, and to reduce energy consumption related to the use of household appliances.
